Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to test drive both the EcoBoost and GT variants, thanks to Ford Motor Company and the #FriendsOfFord program. From autocross courses to canyon roads, here’s a deep dive into my initial impressions of these remarkable vehicles.
2024 Mustang EcoBoost
The EcoBoost model I tested was equipped with the Performance Package, featuring upgraded 6-piston front brakes, 4-piston rear brakes, and a newly revamped 2.3L EcoBoost engine paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission (10R80). As someone who has owned a 2015 EcoBoost and spent extensive time with the Steeda Q350, I can confidently say this 7th-gen EcoBoost is a leap forward.

2024 Mustang GT
My time with the GT Premium, finished in the striking Grabber Blue, was nothing short of exhilarating. Though it lacked the Performance Package, the drive through Southern California’s canyon roads showcased the best of Ford’s engineering.
- Steering: The revised steering ratio requires less input for sharper, more responsive handling—ideal for both spirited drives and everyday cruising.
- Transmission: The 10R80’s calibration is spot-on, delivering smooth yet engaging shifts throughout the drive.
- Features: The cabin feels like a natural evolution from the S550, blending familiarity with fresh enhancements.
The 2024 GT takes inspiration from the Mach 1’s success, elevating the platform to new heights. It effortlessly balances performance and comfort, making it a joy to drive in any setting.
Final Thoughts
The 2024 Mustang lineup is a significant step forward in a shrinking RWD muscle car segment. From the EcoBoost’s turbocharged thrills to the GT’s refined performance, these cars deliver on every front.
